New Media Release - 4 September 2008

KIRITIMATI (Christmas Islands) Travel Advisory No.1

Air Pacific has announced that effective immediately the air service between Nadi (Fiji), Kiritimati (Christmas Island) and Honolulu has been suspended.

The business community and specifically tourism operators on the island will be badly affected by the suspension of these flights.

The Government of Kiribati has announced a temporary service utilising the services of a Gulfstream that will travel between Honolulu and Kiritmati (Christmas) Island.

We are endeavouring to commence this service on the 9th September with weekly services following. A flat fare of $1042 USD return will be tarriffed. Strict 20kg baggage limits will apply.

For potential tourists and travellers seeking to utilise this service please contact Mr Bill Paupe on +001 864 5494 or email kiribaticonsul@aol.com

A longer term replacement arrangement is our most urgent priority, and we will issue updates as appropriate.

We are hopeful that visiting fisherman will reschedule rather than cancel their appointment to tussle with the bone fish the island is famous for.

All passengers with forward bookings should contact their travel agent or relevant airline for further information on their arrangements.
